A toy panda, which encased the Child Guard wireless alarm system, saved me from going astray at a ball game. I was only 5, according to my mother. It is possibly why I give importance to having a personal security alarm.

Apparently, I was out to follow the hot dog man when the Child Guard receiver left with her sounded on a 434 MHz frequency. It was meant to do that once I wandered farther than a 6 to 30 feet distance from her.

I am a New York commuter now and must rely one more time on a personal security alarm to provide me with travel safety. I study film here, which requires location shoots, and also use a bicycle on school grounds.

Prior to my first semester, I had gone on the internet to browse travel safety tools and chanced upon a 130 dB alarm with flashlight, really the killer combination when it came to alarm devices.

This personal security alarm was so handy that I had two ways to activate the alarm, by pulling the safety pin secured to a keychain or by pushing the hot button on top. And with the flashlight providing extra protection at night, it was a great find.

In addition, I procured a dual purpose 120 dB alarm that served both as a burglar alarm and a personal alarm. I could either carry it around or make it into a door alarm. It would make a sound once the door knob was so much as touched.

I had bike trouble one afternoon. A fellow student approached me. He was unarmed but started harassing me for cash, being very pushy and making verbal threats. I would bet he appeared to be doing nothing wrong from a passerby’s point of view.

It was him I scared away after I activated my personal security alarm. To my additional relief, the closest policeman came to offer his police car to convey my bike to the dorm. A few kids alerted him after hearing the alarm.
