The reason that this critter carries the name that it does is because of one of its favorite nesting grounds. That’s right, beds are a bed bug’s preferred place to live. But not just your bed – they actually would rather bed down with poultry and bats than humans.
The nymph is practically invisible. Its translucent shell only changes to being reddish-brown as it approaches maturity. At that time, it develops the full appearance of an adult, growing up to five millimeters long and three millimeters wide, wingless, oval and flat as well.

Bed Bugs are incredibly hardy. They can sustain life in semi-hibernation in temperatures of approximately minus sixteen degrees Celsius. However, a mere fifteen minutes of exposure at minus thirty two Celsius will kill them effectively. The bed bug can be found in any temperate climate. That makes any place that regulates their temperatures year round a perfect place for them to grow and thrive. While they will feed on humans, humans are not their first choice of meal. They would rather feed on bats and poultry.
