Individuals who eat more protein especially early in the day actually have less appetite. One group of individuals that ate a protein rich breakfast and were not given any limits on subsequent food choices, consumed about 30% fewer calories the following day than the other group who ate a presumably carbohydrate rich breakfast. The implication is that the protein digestion process somehow induces some degree of appetite suppression. This effect can be helpful when combined with hCG diet plans.

Protein as a food substance does not tend to raise blood insulin levels. Sugars tend to do this, and insulin among other things is a fat storage hormone. One of our goals is to keep blood sugar levels (and therefore insulin levels) as close to normal as possible. Protein in the meal accomplishes this.

HCG Diet Plateau Breakers

Constipation is common when on a low calorie diet. Increasing your fluid intake per day to at least 3 quarts or 12 eight-ounce glasses of water will help in assisting with digestion and enable the kidneys to flush out toxins and fat.

If you are not eating enough calories on a daily basis, less than 550 as a rule of thumb, your body can go into “starvation mode”. When your body goes into starvation mode it will store fat. You can try adding half an ounce of protein to one of your meals daily.

You can try the “apple day” method, by which you eat 6 apples throughout the day and reduce your fluid intake by one quart. Most people will see a reduction of about two pounds the day following this method as it helps to rid the body of excess fluids. It is not recommended to stay on the ‘apple day’ method continuously.

Consuming red meat more than 1 or 2 times per week is not recommended, as it has been shown to slow down digestion.

You should not use table salt or other seasoning products that contain any salt other than Sea salt when on the hCG diet. If you are having difficulty finding seasonings that contain Sea salt, make your own. Try combining onion or garlic powder with Sea salt to create an hCG diet friendly seasoning.

Do not mix vegetable types with each meal.

All of the carbohydrate snacks that are allowed such as Melba toast, Grissini bread sticks and Wasa crackers should not be consumed.

On a daily basis avoid consuming the same vegetable, protein or fruit more than once.

You should not be consuming any protein that contains flavor enhancers or antibiotics, so make sure your protein sources are free of them.

Avoid canned foods as they contain substances that can slow down weight loss such as flavor enhancers and preservatives.

Using the “steak day” method,bn patients following the hCG diet have lost up to 2 pounds the following day. Physicians do not recommend using the “steak day” method more than 2 times in a 6 week period. This method includes drinking as much fluid as possible throughout the day and then eating a steak for dinner. You are allowed to have an apple and a tomato with dinner on “steak day”.

If you are not having regular bowel movements, a fiber supplement is highly recommended to be taken daily. It is possible to hold 5 or more pounds of stool in the colon. High protein diets most often will cause constipation. If you have discomfort, an over the counter laxative should be taken only as needed.
